Leoquest - Technical Difficulties at TWiT Live (Brodyquest Remix)

TWiT on the fritz? Then we must go on a Leoquest.

It's a little something fun I whipped up overnight using Apple Motion. Every time the crew at the TWiT Network have technical difficulties during their live streams, I immediately think of the Brodyquest theme as it's quirky and fun. It's a lot better than dead air.

Watch Leo Laporte on the TWiT Netcast Network live at http://live.twit.tv/. See the original (and much more awesome) Brodyquest at on Neil Cicierega's YouTube Channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/NeilCicierega). Neil is also creator of the excellent Potter Puppet Pals short videos.

Dear Linux: Please Stop Populating My OS Menu with Every Version of the Kernel Known to Man

From Technology Observation

I love the open-source operating system Ubuntu. There's just one problem I have with it. Every time there is an update to the Kernel, it loves to populate the menu with every version of the kernel installed (as shown above).

Another Comcastic Experience: How Comcast Offers But Doesn't Offer The Basic Service You Pay For

Update: It appears visiting a Comcast rep in person isn't any better than talking to one on the phone or in a chat. Even though there were supposedly notes on our account about which package we wanted to switch to, the local Comcast rep signed us up for the incorrect package (Digital Starter + HBO for 6 months on contract instead of Digital Starter + Starz for 6 months without a contract) AND also added on Encore without our consent (Encore is an additional $10/month). Unacceptable is an understatement.

Comcast. When seeing or hearing the cable giant's name, you just know something negative will follow afterwards. This is no different. Like many cities across this country, Comcast is removing channels from their analog spectrum and moving them to digital to free up bandwidth. That I can understand, but when you start doing so without offering existing customers the option to see the channels they're paying for, it's unfair and evil.

Posterous Layton and the Curious Edit

While moving a theme file over to Posterous, I noticed a rather interesting situation...

If you didn't view the full size image, what you didn't see is that my original code had the word and link to Tumblr. Posterous automatically changed this to the word and link to Posterous. I would assume this is actually part of Posterous' system of helping people move their blogs from Tumblr to Posterous, but I just found it kind of funny that it also made that edit on my behalf. Of course, I'm going to make that change manually myself as well.

(And yes, I know the title of this post was a bit of a stretch.)

My First Computer: The Tandy RLX 1000

It was the early 1990's. My grandma on my dad's side had recently passed away. After my dad's family found new homes for grandma's possessions, we came into a little bit of money. Dad believed it was time to purchase the family's first computer: Radio Shack's Tandy 1000 RLX.

Dear Windows Live Team: SkyDrive Sync Folders is Broken, Makes It Useless [UPDATED]

Update 2: After communicating with the Windows Live team, it turns out I misunderstood some of the original features available in SkyDrive Sync Folders. First, files in Sync Folders cannot be opened in Windows Live Office Web Apps, which is rather unfortunate. I think that would be a killer feature, so I hope they included in the future. It would definitely be a leg up on the competition.

As for being unable to access my SkyDrive Sync Folder files in the first place, there is a known bug with Sync Folders that have over 10,000 files in them. The SkyDrive team is working on this issue.

You can find the original post in its entirety after the break.

Android Media Syncing Almost There but Not Quite Yet

After my old Audiovox SMT 5600 finally bit the dust some time back, I had to get myself a new phone. I didn't want to go back to Apple's iPhone as I wanted to stay with T-Mobile (I pay next to nothing even with a data plan), so I took the plunge into the land of Google's Android.

Coming from iTunes, syncing was rather easy. Connect the phone, sync, done. Unfortunately, there's no centralized application for Android-based phones that do the same. Although there are plenty of wonderful options, they all have their shortcomings.
